Steven Gerrard will think twice as reported Rangers target Graeme Shinnie endures Scotland shocker against Kazakhstan

Graeme Shinnie’s Aberdeen contract expires at the end of the season and a host of clubs are chasing him.

Rangers are among the interested parties, although Steven Gerrard has played down speculation for now, The Daily Express reports.

But Shinnie remained a promising prospect, given his ability to operate in central midfield or at left-back.

With Borna Barisic struggling with form and injuries, Gerrard might have been tempted to offer Shinnie a pre-contract to compete for the left-back spot at Ibrox.

But after watching his latest performance, Gerrard will be seriously thinking twice about signing Shinnie.

With Kieran Tierney and Andrew Robertson unavailable, this was Shinnie’s big opportunity to show Gerrard and Rangers why he would be a good signing.

But Shinnie had an afternoon to forget as he was part of a Scottish defence that shipped three goals against Kazakhstan.

The 3-0 loss will go down as one of Scotland’s darkest days and worst results and Shinnie was culpable for the opening two goals.

To make matters worse, the Aberdeen skipper picked up a needless booking in injury time to cap a frustrating afternoon for him and Scotland.

Gerrard will be drawing up his list of summer transfer targets but Shinnie did himself no favours with his international horror show.
