Rangers manager Steven Gerrard hailed Jermain Defoe after the away win over Hibernian on Friday night.

The Gers produced an impressive display on the road to beat Hibs 3-0 at Easter Road and they moved back to two points behind leaders Celtic in the Scottish Premiership table.

Ryan Kent and Joe Aribo both scored within the opening eight minutes to put the Light Blues in control, while veteran striker Defoe added a third in the second-half.

Gerrard was left stunned by the quality of the 37-year-old, who returned to the starting XI in place of the suspended Alfredo Morelos.

Defoe chested down the ball inside the box and with his second touch flicked it inside past a defender, before rifling in a low powerful finish.

“The third goal is all about top forward play. I mean we all know his age and we all know he’s not going to be around for many more years, but let’s admire that goal. The first touch is top, the second touch is world-class. And the finish is all about a top striker,” Gerrard said, a quoted by the club’s official Twitter account.

TBR’s View:

Defoe has proven numerous times this season he’s still a class acti n front of goal despite being in the latter stages of his career and he’s always been a natural finisher.

The English forward now has 14 goals in 25 games across all competitions this season and he’s such an asset for Rangers to have up their sleeve.

His goal on Friday night showed he’s a deadeye in the final third and there is no doubt he’s playing an important role at Ibrox this season.
