Steven Gerrard speaks out over the futures of Alfredo Morelos and James Tavernier

Steven Gerrard says Rangers have not received a single bid for any of their first team squad, including James Tavernier and Alfredo Morelos.

According to the Daily Record, Gerrard has said there is nothing on the table for any of the Gers players right now – but he does expect to be fielding some interest before the window is out.

He said: “There’s been a lot of speculation about Tav and Alfredo and I’m not surprised. They both had very good seasons but there hasn’t been a single bid for either or for any of my players up until now.

“Do I have to sell to bring in? I don’t think so. I’d be quite happy to go with what we’ve got if we can get another centre-back in. Am I expecting a bid? Possibly. I’ll make a decision if and when a bid lands. Every player has a price.”

It would be a surprise if Rangers went through the whole window without a bid for any of their top talent, but the key is getting top money in if the likes of Tavernier or Morelos leaves.

As Celtic are trying to do across town with Kieran Tierney, it’s important to get a price that reflects the value of the player and allows Rangers to get a replacement of the right quality in.

It would be criminal if they hadn’t planned for the loss of either man – they’ve had enough time to – and Gerrard will likely know how much their preferred replacements would cost, and therefore what they need to bring in.
