Rangers boss Steven Gerrard shares what Colombia head coach recently said to him about Alfredo Morelos

Glasgow Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has spoken in depth about Ibrox striker Alfredo Morelos ahead of the Light Blues’ Europa League clash this evening.

The Gers forward is in line to feature at Ibrox tonight, and could be up against compatriot Radamel Falcao, one of Colombia’s greatest players of all time.

Falcao is one of Morelos’ idols, and Gerrard says his player is right to look up to a player of that calibre, but also urged him to remain focused on impressing the Ibrox camp more than anything.

Gerrard also revealed that he recently spoke to Colombia coach Carlos Queiroz, who told the Rangers boss that he’ll be keeping tabs on both Morelos and Falcao at Ibrox tonight.

“Alfredo has incredible amount of respect for Falcao,” Gerrard is quoted by the Daily Record as saying.

“It’s great to see and he should use him as a hero and a role model to have a similar kind of career.

“I had a conversation with the Colombian coach the other night and he said he’ll be watching both players on the night.

“The only incentive for Alfredo is to impress the Rangers fans with another fantastic performance at this level, which will impress me, the coaching staff and the players.”

Gerrard also praised Morelos for his professional attitude following interest from Lille earlier during the transfer window, during which his head was apparently turned.

“You can see Alfredo looks in better shape, he’s looking sharp and his all-round game has come back,” added Gerrard.

“But the biggest and most obvious thing I’ve noticed is that he looks happy. He’s smiling, he’s better around the place, he looks focused. His professional attitude has been spot on.”

It’s great to see Morelos back in form and in the right frame of mind, both from a personal point of view and in terms of what he can deliver for Rangers.

With Queiroz set to watch Morelos this evening, an above-and-beyond performance from the 24-year-old could provide food for thought for the Colombia boss in terms of further international recognition.

Hopefully, knowing that Queiroz will be watching will spur Morelos on and help Rangers overcome Galatasaray to reach the group stages of the Europa League once again.
