Steven Gerrard says Liverpool have a player who's so good he's 'out of this world'... and it's not Salah
Legendary former Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard has lavished praise on Reds’ defensive lynchpin Virgil van Dijk.
We can all see the difference between Liverpool this season and last season without the Dutchman at the back.
And in an interview with former England teammate Gary Neville on the Overlap, Gerrard underlined his admiration for the defender.
When asked which current Premier League players he’d like to have played with, Gerrard said: “Mo Salah.
“I love Bruno Fernandes, I know (Gary Neville) might not agree with that. I really like him.
“Kevin de Bruyne, for sure, 100%. He’s one of the best in the world. Defensive wise, I think Virgil is out of this world.”
Van Dijk has been widely regarded as the world’s best defender for quite some time now and his impact on this Liverpool side is huge.
He got a rare night off against Benfica last night and the late concessions at Anfield might have had something to do with his absence.
He has that authority and he also has the pace to help Liverpool out when they play a high line and need to cover the space in behind.
It is no surprise Gerrard is a massive fan; there cannot be too many people out there watching Premier League football who don’t admire the Dutchman.
