The Reds forward drew level with Gerrard on 21 European goals with a strike in Tuesday’s 5-0 thrashing of Atalanta in the Champions League.

Salah’s goalscoring form since checking in at Anfield has been breathtaking and is showing no sign of slowing down.

The former midfielder isn’t worried, however, and hopes the Egyptian hero continues to thrive at Liverpool.

He told The Herald: “Records are there to be broken, of course, they are. I was very proud to see Mo Salah equal my goalscoring record for Liverpool in Europe, it was only a matter of time.

“I honestly think he’ll go on and embarrass my record and I hope that he does. That kind of thing is always there for strikers.

“Salah and Alfredo Morelos go about their business always being hungry for goals.”

Salah has already found the net on nine occasions in 12 games this season, featuring in all but on Carabao Cup contest.

It seems for all the world that Salah will blow Gerrard’s record out of the water – and he should do it this season.

Liverpool are chasing title number seven in the Champions League. With Salah on the pitch, they’ll have every chance of getting their hands on more silverware.
