Steven Gerrard posts three-word Instagram verdict on Arsenal's Bukayo Saka
It was heartbreak for England as Italy won Euro 2020 after a penalty shootout that saw three miss from the spot. Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Arsenal star Bukayo Saka all failed to convert. Tributes have flooded in for the trio – including a three-word post from Steven Gerrard.
Gareth Southgate made one change, reverting to a back three and bringing in Kieran Trippier for Saka. Luke Shaw gave England the perfect start and justified Trippier’s selection in the process, getting on the end of the Atletico Madrid’s star’s cross to score. But England failed to hold on, or score again.
Eventually, Leonardo Bonucci bundled the ball home from a corner and the match went to penalties. England had a 2-1 lead after two each, but then Rashford, Sancho and Saka all missed penalties. Saka’s miss saw England lose to Italy, but Gerrard was among those to praise the Arsenal teenager.
Euro 2020: Gerrard is right, Arsenal ace Saka deserves enormous praise
Not many have the bottle to step up in a Euro 2020 final. Let alone playing in front of a packed Wembley, and not to mention that Saka is just 19 years of age. This summer, the Arsenal ace has been immense. Coming into the side, he was even used ahead of Manchester City’s Phil Foden.
Unless injured, there is little doubt that Saka will be a part of next summer’s tournament for the World Cup. He won’t be there to just make up the numbers. Arsenal have got themselves a proper, proper talent and Gerrard is right to hand Saka praise after a stellar Euro 2020 campaign.
