Rangers’ striking situation has recently been under the spotlight. Many feel that Steven Gerrard’s options are spread too thin up top. Alfredo Morelos is the main man. However, in support, Kyle Lafferty has not proved reliable and Umar Sadiq has struggled when given his chance.

So it is great to see one of their youngsters on the scoresheet this week. Dapo Mebude was in action for the Scotland under-19s yesterday. The 17-year-old talent scored once and assisted another two in a comfortable 5-0 win for the Scots.

Of course, it is clear that the opposition was not fearsome in San Marino, but Mebude was still in great form.

It is indicative of his current run. He recently replaced Umar Sadiq for the reserves against Motherwell and inspired Rangers to a 6-2 win – scoring a hat-trick.

Gerrard must surely now be considering giving him a first-team shot at Ibrox. He was recently taken to Spartak Moscow as part of the Rangers squad for a Europa League clash, so he must be in Gerrard’s thoughts.

With Sadiq only on loan at Ibrox, the time might be coming for Rangers to back one of their own ahead of the struggling Roma talent.

Medube could be a future Rangers star. Now might be time to give the London-born attacker his Glasgow chance.
