Steven Gerrard has admitted to Rangers’s official website that Allan McGregor had to do better than he did for the goal that the Gers conceded during their 2-1 victory on Wednesday night.
It looked as though Rangers’s Scottish Premiership title hopes may be dealt another blow. Hibernian took the lead with 10 minutes of the first-half remaining.

A free-kick for the visitors resulted in the ball flying into the air just outside the six-yard box. McGregor came off his line to challenge, but was beaten to the ball and that allowed Paul Hanlon to break the deadlock.
Ultimately, Rangers bounced back and secured the three points.

And reflecting on the goal, Gerrard insisted that McGregor has earned the right to make a mistake since his return to Ibrox. But he did concede that it was an error from the stopper.
“We have obviously conceded a goal, and Allan will be disappointed by it,” he told the club’s official website. “He has been phenomenal for me as a goalkeeper, but I think when he watches that back, he will probably say to himself, ‘should I have come or should I have stayed?’
“I’m sure he’ll discuss that with Colin Stewart, but once he does come, he has to do better. But, he has saved us many, many times before so maybe we can excuse him from criticism.”
As Gerrard notes, McGregor has enough credit in the bank to get away with one error. He has been a colossus since rejoining Rangers.
It would be difficult to tally how many points McGregor has won the Gers since the start of Gerrard’s tenure.
And it would be no surprise if McGregor produces an outstanding performance the next time one such display is required.
