Steven Gerrard was the last Liverpool captain to lift the Champions League before Jordan Henderson broke the club’s 14-year duck in Madrid on Saturday.
And speaking to the Times, Gerrard has given his unique insight into how European glory will change the life of Henderson now.
He said: “Winning will change his life, People around the world knew Jordan Henderson but millions more will now because the Champions League brings a worldwide audience. It is the competition everyone sees.
“He will notice that everyone will want to shake his hand and talk about Madrid. It is a life-changing experience. I am hoping this will become the catalyst for him to lift more trophies above his head.”

Nobody knows more than Gerrard about the impact of winning Europe’s biggest trophy as Reds skipper and the onus is now on Henderson to remain humble, work harder and bring more success to Liverpool.
Gerrard’s Reds were unable to build on their 2005 success and build a dynasty, but Jurgen Klopp’s 2019 iteration appear to be far better placed to do exactly that.
As Gerrard says, Henderson has been ‘doubted’ during his Anfield career but lifting the Champions League is the perfect antidote.
