Steven Gerrard delivers double Rangers boost ahead of Hibernian clash
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has told his press conference on Friday morning that Connor Goldson and Juninho Bacuna could be fit to play.
The Gers are back in action immediately this weekend, following on from Thursday night’s 1-0 defeat in the Czech Republic – losing to Sparta Prague.
It was a game in which Rangers had chances, but lacked conviction. Eventually, the Gers suffered a 1-0 defeat, ending the game with 10 men.
Glen Kamara was shown a yellow card, after new signing Bacuna had been withdrawn in the first half, with the midfielder seemingly blaming injury.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s clash against Hibernian at Ibrox, Gerrard gave an injury update on both Bacuna and Goldson – and it is a positive one.
“Hopefully Goldson will get through training tomorrow and make the squad for Sunday. Bacuna we hope we have addressed situation.
“Before it is too severe. He will have some work in the next 48hrs and has a small chance to play on Sunday,” Gerrard said.
Gerrard update: Goldson and Bacuna big Rangers boost
Goldson, obviously, more than Bacuna. Not seeing his commanding frame at the back against Prague was strange, given his normal reliability.
He rarely misses a match. But with Filip Helander injured on a long-term basis and Nikola Katic on loan, Calvin Bassey played at centre-back.
Alongside Nigeria teammate Leon Balogun, Bassey was hardly without fault on Thursday night. Having Goldson back is a real boost.
Gerrard will be hopeful he can return, and it sounds as if there is a genuine hope. With Bacuna, perhaps less so, but Rangers have options in midfield.
Glen Kamara is likely to play after being sent off against Sparta Prague. Steven Davis continues to remain available as ever.
