Rangers manager Steven Gerrard believes James Tavernier has the ability to play in the Premier League.
The Light Blues captain enjoyed a great season in 2018/19, scoring 14 goals and making 14 assists from right-back.
Eyebrows were raised when the 27-year-old was handed the captain’s armband by Gerrard but the Liverpool legend appears to be very pleased with his choice.

In the manager’s mind, there is no doubt the Bradford-born defender can cut it in the English top flight.
He said, as quoted by The Daily Record: “It (Player of the Year snub) doesn’t change the fact I think Tav could potentially get to the level of the top full-backs in England.
“If you analyse it, he’s got the body to do it. He’s robust enough to do it and he’s got the technical ability to do it.

And Gerrard also revealed that there has already been some interest in the player with the transfer window now open.
He added: “There’s been calls about Tav with clubs interested. But we’ve got a fantastic captain/manager relationship. We know his agent very well and, as with any player, I’m open to these chats at any time. The reality is, and I probably shouldn’t be saying this, but every player has his price.”
TBR’s view
Tavernier arguably could hold his own in the Premier League – certainly one more season like the one he’s just enjoyed at Rangers would suggest he’s ready.

West Bromwich Albion have recently been credited with an interest, but Gerrard is adamant he wants his skipper to stay.
Tavernier knows he is loved at Ibrox and the responsibility of being captain there might be enough to see him stick around for another campaign.
