Rangers boss Steven Gerrard was blown away by the performance of Borna Barisisc as the Gers swept aside St Johnstone 3-0 at Ibrox (Daily Record).
Goals from Barisic, Ryan Kent and Joe Aribo maintained the Teddy Bears’ position at the summit of the Scottish Premiership.
Despite the display, Gerrard wasn’t overly happy with his team’s overall showing and will still look for improvements in the coming weeks.
Rangers are yet to concede a goal during their opening three league games and a sublime strike from Croatian Barisic led to Gerrard raving about his left-back.
He told the Daily Record: “It was just a majestic piece of skill.
“It’s very difficult to get that up, over and down and into the top corner but he practices that so he deserves all the plaudits, it’s a fantastic piece of play.”
Barisic signed for Rangers in 2018, completing a deal to stay at the club for four years.
Checking in from NK Osijek, Barisic cost the Gers £2.2 million and has proved himself to be worth every single penny.
The 27-year-old is a fan favourite at Ibrox and it’s easy to see why with the player determined and boasting a wand of a left foot.
During his two years at the club, he has featured 65 times for the club, helping himself to three goals and no fewer than 20 assists.
Barisic has 12 caps for Croatian and on his day he is arguably the best left-back in Scotland, with Gerrard’s praise not overly surprising.
Rangers will be keen to ensure Celtic don’t make it 10 league titles in succession this season and in order to do that, they will need players like Barisic to be at it each and every week.
