Steven Gerrard believes two more Liverpool players have entered world-class bracket

Anfield legend Steven Gerrard believes two more of Jurgen Klopp’s stars have now become ‘world-class’.

The German has assembled an outstanding squad since joining the club in 2015, with the Reds finally delivering on their early promise under his tutelage.

Last term they won the Champions League and recorded their highest-ever points tally in the Premier League, and in 2019/20 they’ve already won the UEFA Super Cup and are eight points clear at the top of the league.

The likes of Alisson, Virgil van Dijk, Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane have all developed into world-class players at Anfield, but Gerrard believes two more names can now be added to that list.

The Rangers manager told The Liverpool Echo: “What we have in Trent and Robbo now, straight away, you would put them in the world-class bracket.

“They are up there with the best players in their position, worldwide. So there’s no point saying how good could they be because they are already there.

“What I would say is he [Trent] is already there and we, as Liverpool fans, are blessed to have these two full-backs in the position because they are absolutely flying.”

TBR’s view – Gerrard bang on

Liverpool’s full-backs are both undeniably now world-class.

They are a massive part of the way Liverpool play, and there are very few sets of full-backs in Europe who can hold a candle to them.

Not only do they offer so much going forwards, but both can defend well (more so Robertson) and just have excellent all-round games.

They do it consistently both domestically and in Europe, and it is about time the pair were getting the recognition they deserve.

Certainly without their influence, the front three would be far less productive.
