Hagi completed a permanent move to Ibrox recently after impressing massively in a loan spell. The former Genk man signed a long term deal with the Gers, according to the BBC.

After making 12 appearances on loan last season, Hagi will be hoping to help Rangers prevent Celtic from making it ten titles in a row next term.

And his father, Barcelona and Real Madrid legend, Gheorge, has backed Steven Gerrard to get the best out of his son.

“His manager believes in him and thinks he can make him one of the best players in the world.

Steven Gerrard has lived through this before. He knows what to do with Ianis and I know he will make him a better player.

He’s with the right club and I know he will get better every day. He will be a bigger player than me if he keeps working hard and learning.”

Hagi was speaking to the Daily Record. He is also claimed Ianis can go on to be better than him, which is in itself quite the statement given the Romanian’s career.

It’s high praise for both Gerrard and Ianis from the Romanian legend but the fact is if Rangers can get a player half as good as Gheorge, they’ll have done well.

Young Hagi certainly looks to have plenty of qualities about him. Whether he can translate that into being a player with enough quality for the likes of Madrid and Barcelona remains to be seen.

However, it’s exciting times to be a Gers fan. In Hagi, they have a player who can genuinely excite the crowd next season and, hopefully, propel them to the title.
