TBR Football understands Steven Gerrard has agreed in principle to return to Rangers following talks with the club’s hierarchy.

Chairman Andrew Cavenagh, along with board member Paraag Marathe, met Steven Gerrard and presented their plans, which have impressed the former Ibrox chief.

Gerrard made clear his requirements to the Rangers hierarchy, and they are ready to give him what he wants in order to make sure he is back at the club.

Our chief correspondent Graeme Bailey can also reveal the ambitious objective Gerrard would be tasked with achieving should he officially put pen to paper.

Exclusive: Rangers want Steven Gerrard to create a ‘dynasty’

Bailey told TBR Football: “I am told that Gerrard enjoyed the meetings and is impressed with his potential new boss Andrew Cavenagh.

“Cavenagh made it clear that they got it wrong with Russell Martin but are confident with Gerrard back at the helm, they can put the club on track.

“They did say to Gerrard they want him to return and create a new ‘Dynasty’, something he didn’t really do before, and he is on board with that.

“There are some details still left to sort, but he has told them he is ready to come back.”

Gerrard, of course, led Rangers to the Scottish Premiership title during his first stint in charge between 2018 and 2021, and he became the club’s No 1 target to replace Martin.

TBR Football reported that Sean Dyche had also held talks over becoming their Scottish giants’ new manager, but he decided he would not take the job.

Steven Gerrard’s record at Rangers

Gerrard first arrived at Ibrox in May 2018 after a chaotic season that had seen Rangers dismiss both Pedro Caixinha and interim coach Graeme Murty.

His first objective was a major clear-out and squad overhaul, and in the 2020-21 campaign, the Gers finally won their 55th top-flight crown, their first since 2010-11.

Their success also deprived fierce rivals Celtic of a 10th title in a row.

Gerrard spent three-and-a-half years with Rangers before leaving in November 2021 to join Aston Villa. During his stint in Glasgow, he lost just 26 of his 193 matches in charge.
