Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has admitted he has had regrets over his decision to leave Anfield because he didn’t have the chance to play under Jurgen Klopp.
As per Sky Sports, Gerrard, now Rangers manager, has admitted to imagining what it would have been like to play under the German, who has brought the good times back to Anfield.
He said: “I always had little thoughts as I’ve gone along. Should I have stayed at Liverpool? Should I have signed a year extension? Maybe I might have been able to have that cameo under Jurgen Klopp as maybe a squad player.
“But, of course, you always have little moments – imagine if I’d stayed at Liverpool a bit longer and maybe I’d bumped into Jurgen Klopp, as someone who could maybe have given him 10-15 minutes off the bench. Of course it has crossed my mind – I would have loved that.”
TBR’s View – Would Gerrard really have been happy with a bit-part role?
The Steven Gerrard of 2019 – retired, having seen the good times come back to the club he loves – may say he’d perhaps consider a bit-part role at Anfield.
But the reality of the former skipper remaining at the club but unable to play every week may well have been different.
Would he really have been happy with a bench role? Having Gerrard around with the side struggling may have seen the fans call for him play more, increasing the pressure on Klopp.
