Steve Nicol says 22-year-old Arsenal player keeps making bad decisions in the final third

Arsenal are in terrible form right now.

There’s no avoiding it, the Gunners are struggling at the moment.

Goals are incredibly hard to come by for Arsenal, and after three consecutive losses, something has to change.

Interestingly, after years of being Arsenal’s best player, Bukayo Saka is now having the finger pointed at him, and speaking on ESPN, Steve Nicol has criticised Saka for his decision-making in the final third, claiming that he’s taking so many shots that he shouldn’t.

Saka taking too many shots

Nicol shared his verdict on the 22-year-old’s recent showings.

“He has to make better decisions, we’ve just shown the xG, use that stat, and then you show that Saka has had 29 shots, the problem is that 20 of these shots are bad decisions where the shot isn’t on and he’s doing things he shouldn’t be doing. Last season it was perfect for them, but now everyone is sitting a bit tighter which is why he’s had 29 shots that are hitting everything but the back of the net,” Nicol said.

Desperate

Nicol is right, Saka is taking too many potshots at the moment, and that is born out of desperation.

The winger just needs something to go in to spark a bit of form, and he’s forcing the issue rather than waiting for the right opportunities.

We all know that Saka is capable of scoring these incredible goals, but if you try it every single time you get the ball, you’re going to be figured out very quickly and you’re not going to help the team.

For the first time in a long time, Saka’s performances are being questioned, and he does need to buck up his ideas if he’s going to help Arsenal win the Premier League this season.

Fingers crossed Saka can find a bit of form soon for Arsenal.
