Liverpool legend Steve McManaman believes that the Reds are really missing a player similar to Raheem Sterling.

The former Liverpool winger helped Manchester City to a 4-1 win at Anfield last Sunday.

Sterling won City a first-half penalty, got on the scoresheet, and gave Trent Alexander-Arnold a torrid time, surging past him on numerous occasions.

Meanwhile, Liverpool struggled in attack, despite having first-choice trio Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah all in the XI.

“Liverpool actually miss a player like this now, who can take players on, who can get around the side, who can get crosses in,” McManaman told Optus Sport.

“Liverpool are a bit one-dimensional in the forward areas.”

Sterling has infamously struggled against Liverpool in the past, especially at Anfield, but on Sunday, the Reds simply didn’t have any answer for him.

Klopp definitely has plenty to think about in terms of what players to recruit in the summer transfer window.

Liverpool have been unlucky with regards to the first-choice front three’s form at various points of the season, along with Diogo Jota being out injured.

However, Xherdan Shaqiri hasn’t done well on the flanks, and Divock Origi doesn’t seem to have what it takes to cover for the main four attackers.
