Steve McManaman has told Goal that he still expects Diogo Jota to be Jurgen Klopp’s fall guy once all of his attacking options are fully fit.
The 23-year-old has been a revelation since checking in at Anfield during the summer transfer window. He has fired nine goals in 14 outings, with his latest goal coming on Saturday against Brighton.
With games coming thick and fast, Klopp’s selection headache isn’t severe at the moment and he is capable of rotating his pack accordingly each week.
There will come a point where all of his options are fit, however, and that will leave the boss with a big decision to make.
Former winger McManaman still thinks his trusted three are firmly established as the trusted three at Anfield.
“I still think Jurgen Klopp likes the fact he can rely on Firmino, Mane and Salah at the moment, as much as Jota has been absolutely fantastic.
“I think Jota would still be the one to drop out at the moment. If his form carries on, that might chance but he won the league with the other three so he knows he can fully trust them fully.”
TBR View – The challenge facing Jota at Liverpool
It sounds stupid considering his blistering form but all the Portugal international can do is continue his rich goalscoring form.
The versatile forward is busy providing Klopp with a headache of sorts and once everyone is completely fit there will come a big decision.
Jota is well on the way to reaching last season’s goal tally of 16 goals and already looks capable of being a Liverpool star for many years.
Brazilian forward Firmino does bring a lot to the team but it would seem at the moment that he would be the most likely to miss out.
Jota is flying at his new club and he will hope to continue banging in plenty of goals.
If he does that, Klopp will have a big decision to make.
