Steve McManaman was wowed by the performance of Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino on Thursday night in the Premier League win away to Tottenham.

The Reds traveled to the capital last night and picked up three points with a 3-1 victory at Spurs.

Jurgen Klopp’s side ended a shock run of five league games with a victory by beating Spurs in impressive fashion.

The result lifted them to fourth in the table, but they are four points adrift of current leaders Manchester City.

McManaman singled out Liverpool star Firmino as a real standout from the result, claiming that he looked physically strong.

The £180,000-a-week centre-forward opened the scoring with a simple tap-in after getting into the box and he knitted the attack together throughout the contest.

“He’s had a great night. He looked back to his best, holding the ball up, bringing players into the game, looked very strong, his touch was there from the first minute,” McManaman said on BT Sport 1 (9:48pm, 28 January).

If Firmino finds his rhythm, Liverpool quite often look at their most dynamic going forward.

The 29-year-old Brazilian is part of the formidable front trio that has been so successful in recent years, where he fits in the central role allowing wingers Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah to work off him.

He’s scored six goals and supplied five assists in 29 games across all competitions so far this season.

His physicality is perhaps an underrated aspect of his game, as he’s able to hold the ball up so effectively and work in tight areas linking up play.
