Steve Bruce has labelled Callum Wilson’s knack for scoring from close range unbelievable, and insisted that that is not something that can be taught, in comments reported by the Chronicle.
Wilson has made a fantastic start to life at St James’ Park. It always looked to be a shrewd piece of business to sign the striker for around £20 million in the summer (fee reported by BBC Sport).

He has gone on to score six goals in his first seven league appearances for the Magpies, with his latest two coming in the weekend win over Everton.
Bruce deserves praise for pushing for Wilson to be signed in the summer. But ahead of their clash with Southampton this week, he admitted that he can take no credit for the manner in which Wilson has bagged a handful of his goals.

“The most important thing he does is score a goal,” he said, as reported by the Chronicle. “I think he’s got three goals from a yard this season, which is an unbelievable knack. You can’t coach that – it’s just that instinct to be in the right place.”
Remarkably, Wilson has already equalled what last season’s top goalscorer ended the campaign with.
They have been important goals, too. Of course, his brace saw off Everton at the weekend. But he has previously bagged the winning goals at Burnley, an equaliser at Tottenham, and the opener in the win at West Ham.
It remains to be seen if Wilson can continue anything like this run of form for the majority of the campaign. But there is no question that there are potentially a number of Premier League bosses feeling fairly foolish for not signing the England international before his Tyneside move.
