Reports of an imminent takeover at Newcastle United have fans at the club excited regarding big-money moves. Plenty of big names from across Europe are being linked with a switch to St James’ Park as a consequence. However, history has shown that the first wave of signings after a takeover like this in the UK tend to be internal – top players playing for clubs in the lower positions of the Premier League. It happened at both Chelsea and Manchester City.
If that is going to be the case for Newcastle United, then one man who must be at the top of their shopping list is Jack Grealish.
The Aston Villa playmaker has been in fine form this season and has the Premier League’s elite on his tail. As reported by the Daily Star, he is valued at around £50 million and the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have been linked.

But with the clout of a financial takeover, Newcastle United could easily join in the battle.
Many might ask why would Grealish switch Villa for Newcastle? But should Villa suffer relegation, why not?
“I have to say fair play to the [Aston Villa] owners, even though they sacked me.
“The first thing they did was to give Jack Grealish a new five-year contract and say we want to build the team around him. How refreshing to every Villa supporter that was.
“He is the crown jewel and he never wanted to leave. It would be difficult for anyone to buy him with the size of contract he has got, but he could play for any team, Manchester United, Tottenham, Chelsea, Arsenal … any team. I rate him that highly.”
– Steve Bruce on Jack Grealish in November 2019
He would be guaranteed first-team football at St James’ and have the chance to take them to the top with this massive financial investment.
Then there is the Steve Bruce factor. Bruce is set to remain at Newcastle United after a takeover, at least that is according to a report from The Daily Mail.
Bruce worked with Grealish at Villa Park and the pair had a strong relationship. Grealish called Bruce a ‘legend’ after his Villa departure in 2018. Earlier this season, before Newcastle faced Villa at Villa Park, Bruce spoke warmly of Grealish to The Telegraph, highlighting his talent. Aston Villa won that game 2-0, with Grealish being named man-of-the-match.
So this summer, if Newcastle United have money to spend, then Grealish would look like the perfect fit for their new revolution.
