Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce says one thing annoys him ‘more than anything’ about his team right now. The Magpies sunk to a weekend defeat.
Newcastle United aren’t what Steve Bruce wants them to be right now. After a decent 1-1 draw away at Wolves and victory over Everton, the Magpies sunk to a 2-0 defeat against Southampton.

The Saints weren’t at their best, either, as star striker Danny Ings missed the game with an injury. Still, Newcastle couldn’t take advantage and gave up the three points without too much fuss.
And that inconsistency is Bruce’s biggest problem.
“The one thing that annoys me more than anything is the inconsistency that nags away at me constantly,” he said, per the Chronicle. “We didn’t get anywhere near where we had been five days before.
“And that is my biggest disappointment.”
TBR View:
It’ll certainly eat at Bruce. One look at the table and you can see the frustration, in fact. Newcastle have a mirrored record after eight games, with three wins, two draws, and three defeats.
There’s no consistency there and they really need a string of decent results to make something of this season. A win over the Saints, for instance, would have pushed them all the way up to sixth.
Now, there’s no real worry of relegation. They’re already eight points clear of the drop zone but another middling, unnotable season won’t exactly excite the fans.
But this has always been the problem under Bruce. Newcastle have never strung more than two Premier League wins together under the boss, and that will naturally leave you sitting in midtable.
Bruce needs to find a way to get the team ticking over a longer period. Do that and, with the table looking like it is, Newcastle could fire themselves into an interesting place.
