Steve Bruce says Aston Villa didn’t deserve win over Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday manager Steve Bruce believes his side didn’t deserve to end up on the losing side against Aston Villa.

Bruce suffered a 3-1 defeat when facing up against his former employers and his team had gone in front thanks to an early goal from Gary Hooper.

But the visitors scored through John McGinn to equalise in the first-half, before they netted two late strikes through Albert Adomah and Tammy Abraham in stoppage time at the end of the game.

Wednesday attacker Steven Fletcher missed a penalty that turned out to be costly, as Bruce suffered his first defeat since he took over at Hillsborough and it also ended a 12-game unbeaten run for the club.

“I’m so disappointed for the players because they didn’t deserve that. We missed big opportunities but the way we played, sometimes this game is cruel and that’s football,” Bruce said, as quoted by Wednesday’s official Twitter account.

TBR’s View:

Wednesday were unfortunate to end up on the losing side at the weekend and it appears like any slim hopes of reaching the play-offs are now over.

But overall life under Bruce so far has been positive and the club are building towards next season when they will hope to compete for promotion.

Meanwhile, Villa have consolidate their spot in the play-off positions and it shows their great form that they can win without playing too well, as they won their sixth consecutive match.
