Steve Bruce praises three Newcastle fringe players

Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce has expressed his delight for fringe stars Emil Krafth, Nabil Bentaleb and Valentino Lazaro, after all three featured in the team’s emphatic midweek victory over Bournemouth.

The Magpies produced a scintillating display to win 4-1 away to Bournemouth in the Premier League and they go into the weekend 13th in the table, but are only four points behind eight-placed Arsenal.

With Newcastle enjoying a great run of league form, star names such as Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron have understandably been stealing the headlines.

But Newcastle boss Bruce has given a special mention to three squad players following their latest displays, with the home fixture against West Ham just around the corner on Sunday.

Defender Krafth and midfielder Bentaleb both impressed during the 90 minutes against Bournemouth, plus wide man Lazaro got on the scoresheet with a lively cameo from the bench.

“I was delighted for people who have had to wait patiently. Emil Krafth springs to mind. Nabil Bentaleb springs to mind. Lazaro springs to mind. They reminded us of what really good players they are and they have had to wait,” Bruce said on Friday, as quoted by the Chronicle.

TBR’s View:

Bruce has not always been the most popular man at St James’ Park since he took charge, but he appears to be getting everything out of his squad right now and a top-10 finish is definitely in their sights.

They possess only a handful of elite names on their books that on their day can be a real force in the Premier League, but the entire squad looks to be moving in the right direction.

A healthy squad is vital right now given the quick turnaround in fixtures and it’s great for supporters to see others stepping in.

Lazaro has mainly been used as an impact substitute since he joined on loan and provides a spark from the bench, while loanee Bentaleb and right-back Krafth have not had much action since football resumed.
