Newcastle manager Steve Bruce has admitted the club has an interest in Nice winger Allan Saint-Maximin, as per the Newcastle Chronicle.
Bruce was asked about the 22-year-old having landed the club-record signing of Joelinton and was happy to say that there’s an interest there.
When Saint-Maximin’s name was mentioned, Bruce said: “I don’t think it’s on the verge of happening but it’s somebody we have looked at, it’s somebody we have identified and we will see what happens.
“I had the conversation and there was money to spend. It was all positive in that respect. There is proof already. Ideally we would like another three or four but one or two always fall away. We will do our upmost.”

Rafa Benitez wanted ageing players such as Salomon Rondon and that’s one of the reasons why Mike Ashley wasn’t willing to back him with cash.
Joelinton and Saint-Maximin are younger players who should go up in value – especially the latter – but are they the players that Bruce wants?
Perhaps more likely is they’re players who have been identified as those who can be sold on at a profit, which won’t necessarily help Bruce build his Magpies blueprint.
Like every new Newcastle manager, Bruce seems to believe he’s in charge of transfers and Ashley wants the club to move forward, but it’s likely he will soon realise otherwise.
