Liverpool have enjoyed a good start to their Premier League defence but Stephen Warnock’s pre-season comments are proving painfully true for the Reds.
Sitting in third, Jurgen Klopp’s men are well placed to ensure they are right in the mix to make it two in a row in terms of league titles.

The Reds have coped well without Virgil van Dijk in the main. The Dutchman suffering a season-ending injury at the hands of Jordan Pickford in the Merseyside derby against Everton.
However, Joe Gomez is now also set to miss most of the campaign and unfortunately for Liverpool, a new defender was something that former left-back Warnock called in pre-season.
“Thiago Alcantara would make a huge difference to Liverpool’s midfield if they can get him from Bayern and I still think they need another centre-half, like most of the top teams do”, Warnock told BBC Sport ahead of the season.
Of course, Warnock wasn’t to know that Liverpool would suffer injuries to both of their first choice central defenders, but the fact it was an area identified for strengthening suggests the Reds may have dropped the ball.

Jurgen Klopp must be fuming and upset deep down. The fixture list has been a nightmare as it is so to lose Gomez on England duty when most people think the games shouldn’t go ahead, is a kick in the teeth.

However, he probably should have looked into the market in the summer. Even without the injuries, Liverpool lacked depth in what is a key area for teams looking to win.
Klopp, then, will surely get the backing in January to make a move for a centre-half or two.
