Former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock has shared what Steven Gerrard told him about Curtis Jones when he was manager of the club’s Under-18 side.

On Sky Sports, Warnock revealed the high regard in which Gerrard holds Jones, after his stunning goal won the Merseyside derby for the Reds on Sunday.

He said: “I remember coming off the pitch and saying to Steven, ‘who’s the number 10?’ Because he just glides past players, making it look so effortless, so easy.

“Steven turned around and said Jones has everything to become a top player. If his attitude is right, he’ll make it to the top. Jones is maturing and is under the right manager who is giving him trust to go out and express himself, to play the way he wants.”

TBR’s View – Jones in perfect to make good on his clear talent

If Jones was at a club not doing as well as Liverpool, he would almost certainly have had more gametime. But Anfield is the ideal place for him to develop.

He is working under a top manager, with top players and he knows he has to be absolutely on top of his game to get a sniff of gametime, even with the fixtures piling up.
