Aston Villa are once again being linked with Angers striker Stephane Bahoken. Last weekend it was reported by the Sunday Mirror (28/04/2019; pg 68) that Villa were keen, along with Sheffield United, Derby County and Swansea City.
This, of course, is not the first time Villa have been linked with Cameroonian striker.
Last April France Football reported that Villa were keen on the then Strasbourg forward, along with Swansea and Stoke City.
They were also heavily linked with Bahoken’s signature last January. SFR reported in the winter that Aston Villa wanted to bring him in on loan until the end of the season, when they would hope to sign him on a free.
Aston Villa’s recruitment in the summer was struck by financial difficulty after failing to win promotion to the Premier League. Therefore, any interest in Bahoken would have to be hypothetical.
The striker went on to join Angers and yesterday he showed why Aston Villa’s interest remains. The 26-year-old scored the winning goal at Bordeaux in a 1-0 win with an outstretched leg from a left-wing cross. It was his 11th goal of the season and Aston Villa will no doubt have taken notice of his latest strike.
