Stenhousemuir boss thanks Celtic for 18-year-old’s homecoming

Talented young Celtic attacker Connor McBride has joined Stenhousemuir on a youth loan until January.

The 18-year-old is a former Scotland under-17 international who joined Celtic from Falkirk in January 2018. In fact, he was formerly in the youth system at Stenhousemuir, so this is something of a homecoming for the teenage attacker.

McBride is from the area and manager Davie Irons told the club’s official website that he hopes his performances for Stenny can help inspire those in the local community.

“Thanks to Celtic for the opportunity to bring him in. We hope we can continue to play a positive role in his development for the benefit of Connor, Stenhousemuir and Celtic.

“He is (a) local lad and someone well known to the Club, we hope that young people in the area can relate to him and enjoy coming to see him play for his local team.”

For Celtic, it is an undoubted positive move to get McBride playing more regular football especially at a club where he will feel comfortable.

This season, McBride made the bench for Celtic’s Challenge Cup ties against Queen’s Park and his former club Falkirk, the latter of which they lost on penalties.

Other than that, his chances of playing as a starter regularly were looking limited not only in the first-team but in the youth system.

Celtic will hope he can prove himself at Ochilview Park and return to the club an improved prospect next year.
