Aston Villa have been going well early doors in 2020/21, winning five of their first nine games.

They sit 12th in the Premier League table at the moment, and will be itching to return to action after seeing their game with Newcastle United postponed.

The Villans did some good business this summer, with the loan of Ross Barkley or transfer of Ollie Watkins probably the most eye-catching moves.

But there is one man who is quietly putting in a fine campaign so far.

Matty Cash, signed from Nottingham Forest for around £16 million (BBC Sport), has nailed down the right-back position so far and has really caught the eye for Dean Smith’s side.

And there is a statistic that has come to light to suggest he is actually one of the most industrious players in the Premier League so far.

According to Squawka, Cash is one of only two players to have made 25+ tackles and 25+ interceptions so far.

He’s made 25 and 27 respectively, while N’Golo Kante is just ahead of him on 32 tackles and 29 interceptions.

It’s even more impressive when considering Cash has only played nine games whereas Kante has played 11.

A few eyebrows were raised about his £16 million price tag, but he’s allayed fears and looks very comfortable at Premier League level.

To be rubbing shoulders with Kante in the defensive statistics certainly suggests him as having started well.
