'Starting to hear whispers': Journalist claims Liverpool could follow Diaz signing with 'fantastic' playmaker
Liverpool appear to be closing in on bringing Luis Diaz to Anfield before transfer deadline day.
However, the Reds could potentially look to follow up his signing with that of a a ‘fantastic’ 19-year-old playmaker.
Liverpool have recently been linked with Fulham’s Fabio Carvalho, one of the brightest talents in the Championship.
The Reds are reportedly monitoring the 19-year-old after a stunning start to the season.
Carvalho has registered seven goals and three assists in 17 Championship appearances.
He also won the EFL Young Player of the Month last August and has won England caps at U16, U17 and U18 level.
Carvalho will be available on a free transfer when his existing deal expires in June.
His next club will have to pay Fulham a compensation fee for training him.
“Their interest has definitely turned his head”
Admittedly, Marco Silva has claimed that Carvalho – a player he has called “fantastic” – will not leave the club in January.
“Fabio will be with us until the end of the season,” Silva told The Mirror on Friday afternoon. “I would like to see him here for more years.
“From day one I have been trying to keep him. It is not a surprise that clubs are interested in Fabio. We are talking about a young player with big talent.
“The situation is not easy because he is in the last year of his contract, but that is the reality. It is out of our plans for him to leave the club in this window.”
However, Dean Jones has since claimed that he’s started to hear “whispers” over a potential late Liverpool move for Carvalho.
In addition, the transfer insider claims the Reds’ purported interest in the player has “definitely” turned his head.
“I’m starting to hear whispers that Liverpool might push forward their interest in Fabio Carvalho to this window,” Jones told GiveMeSport.
“Their interest has definitely turned his head.”
