'Start our title charge': Some Arsenal fans erupt as Arteta shares 'great' news
A number of Arsenal fans have welcomed Mikel Arteta’s update on Gunners midfielder Granit Xhaka.
The Switzerland international has been out of action since suffering a knee injury in the derby win over Spurs in late September.
An accidental collision with Lucas Moura left Xhaka on the ground and in pain before he trudged off the pitch in the 82nd minute.
A few days later, the Arsenal media team confirmed that Xhaka suffered a significant injury to his medial knee ligament.
The 29-year-old was originally expected to be out until January, but Arteta is now optimistic that he’ll be back sooner.
When asked about Xhaka’s progress, the Arsenal boss told his pre-Newcastle press conference: “Hopefully he will be a little bit sooner than expected.
“He is training and pushing himself and all the staff so hard like he always does.
“He is in a good place, he is evolving well and hopefully we can have him a little bit earlier.”
With both Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny set to compete in the Africa Cup of Nations early next year, Arteta will have fewer central midfielders to call upon.
Therefore, Xhaka’s potential early return to action would be a huge boost for the Gunners.
And some Arsenal fans were delighted with the news:
