‘Start him Saturday’: Some Spurs fans want to see 19-year-old that both Jose Mourinho and Mauricio Pochettino rate highly

A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans have taken to Twitter to praise Oliver Skipp’s performance and post-match comments after Spurs’ FA Cup fifth-round elimination on Wednesday night.

Jose Mourinho’s Spurs took on Norwich City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and broke the deadlock in the 13th minute through a towering Jan Vertonghen header.

However, Josip Drmic equalised on the rebound in the 78th minute after Tottenham goalkeeper Michel Vorm failed to hold on to Kenny McLean’s effort.

The game eventually headed to spot kicks, where Norwich keeper Tim Krul once again showed his strong penalty-saving credentials to help his side into the quarter-finals at Spurs’ expense.

Skipp was one of the better Tottenham performers on the day, helping set Spurs on their way to the opener courtesy of a crunching tackle, and battling throughout the 120 minutes.

The 19-year-old has made just seven appearances this season but is highly rated by both Mourinho and his Spurs precedessor Mauricio Pochettino.

The former has reportedly deemed Skipp a “big player for the future”, and the latter told the Spurs website in December 2018 that he is “a top player and a top kid and I’m sure he will have a very successful career.”

After the Norwich loss, Skipp – who was described as “phenomenal” by Mourinho – told the Tottenham media team: “It’s always nice to be complimented, that’s a positive for me, but I’d rather be in a winning performance.

“It’s nice what he said, but we’re so disappointed with the result. It’s devastating to go out on penalties, the harshest way in football to lose after 120 minutes, a tough game, so really disappointed with that.”

Some Spurs fans praised Skipp for his performance and attitude, and urged Mourinho to start him against Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday.
