A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans have urged Jose Mourinho to give Marcel Lavinier more senior game time at right-back.
The 20-year-old was included in Mourinho’s 25-man squad for the knockout stages of the Europa League, and made his Spurs debut in Wednesday night’s 4-0 win over Wolfsberger.
He came through the ranks at Chelsea, winning the Under-18 Premier League southern division and national title, the FA Youth Cup and the inaugural Under-18 Premier League Cup in 2017-18.
The versatile player – who can play across the defence and even in midfield – was released by the West Londoners last year and linked up with Spurs in October 2020 after a trial.
Now, Lavinier is in and around the Tottenham first team and, after getting 16 minutes off the bench, he’s eager for more.
“Ever since I’ve come here I’ve felt welcomed, I’ve felt supported and once I get that feeling, I can just go on the pitch and the rest takes care of itself really,” he told the Spurs website.
“I’ve had a taste of it now and I want to try to get back to it, and to do all I can to make sure that this is a regular thing.”
Mourinho currently has Matt Doherty and Serge Aurier at his disposal at right-back, but neither has cemented their spot in the position.
And some Spurs supporters would like to see Lavinier given a go instead:
Could be a big plus for us if he does get some more minutes the rest of the season. He’ll obviously make mistakes being a young defender but no more then the other right backs.

I really liked his cameo yesterday, the right back slot is there for the taking
