‘Standout player’: Some Aston Villa fans thought £14m man was ‘brilliant’ last night

A number of Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to praise Morgan Sanson’s performance in Friday night’s disappointing Premier League draw.

Dean Smith’s charges headed to Newcastle and played out a largely uninspiring affair that remained goalless heading into the latter stages of the game.

Villa broke the deadlock in the 86th minute when Ollie Watkins’ header deflected off Ciaran Clark, struck the underside of the bar and went into the Magpies net.

However, the visitors then conceded deep in injury time as Jamaal Lascelles headed home from Jacob Murphy’s cross, resulting in a share of the spoils.

Most of Villa’s players didn’t exactly cover themselves in glory, but there were a few exceptions, such as Ezri Konsa, Emiliano Martinez, and Sanson.

The £14million man came off the bench and looked bright, carrying the ball forward and offering something different to the team.

At one point, Sanson went on a powerful run forward, a sign of progression regarding his fitness levels and sharpness.
