Stan Collymore suggests Arsenal should make ambitious move for Diego Simeone

Pundit and former Premier League striker Stan Collymore reckons Diego Simeone is the man Arsenal need to take them forwards amid Unai Emery’s continued struggles at the Emirates.

Arsenal are winless in their last six games and the pressure on the Spaniard is huge at the moment.

The fans are disgruntled with what they have seen this season, following a positive summer in the transfer market.

The club are currently eighth in the Premier League table and are already eight points adrift of the top four.

Emery’s dithering over the Granit Xhaka situation has concerned many, while his tactics often appear to be lost on the players.

In the eyes of Collymore, Atletico Madrid boss Simeone is the man who can whip the underperforming crop into shape.

He wrote in his latest Daily Mirror column: “The Arsenal board should now be testing Diego Simeone’s ambition and offering him the chance to test himself against Klopp, Mourinho and Pep.

“Forget going to Germany or Italy for a new manager, with Simeone they have a chance by saying, you have plateaued, eight years in Madrid, we will double your wages, we can parachute you in to compete against Mourinho, Klopp, Pep.

“He has the hard-working attitude and force of character to change that squad. Emery was never going to be a revolutionary.

“He would fit what Arsenal need almost perfectly.”

TBR’s view – Arsenal would be so lucky

Arsenal would do extremely well to get Simeone in considering he signed a new contract in February of this year.

The 49-year-old is a legendary figure at the Wanda Metropolitano due to his achievements as both a player and a manager.

The two-time Champions League finalist and two-time Europa League winner is the master defensive coach who could take Arsenal to new heights, but whether he’d walk out on Atleti – given they are in the title race and tend to do well in Europe – is anyone’s guess.
