Stan Collymore has stressed the important of Aston Villa duo Jack Grealish and Jota ahead of the new season.

The pair both impressed on Wednesday night during a comprehensive 5-1 victory over Walsall in a pre-season match.

Jota (two) and Grealish were on the scoresheet for the Midlands giants, while striker Wesley Moraes also netted a brace.

Dean Smith saw his side look at their creative best when attacking and will be hoping there is more to come when their Premier League season kicks off away to Tottenham.

Ex-Villa striker Collymore has identified the value of his former side’s creative players, who can provide the ammunition for strikers like Wesley.

He picked out Villa captain Grealish for his creative role from midfield, while new summer signing Jota has also impressed on the right flank in pre-season since his arrival

“Can’t express how important a quick thinker is in an attacking midfield,” Collymore wrote on his personal Twitter account.

“Have seen enough of Wesley already to see he’s going to hurt defenders this season if you see him then find him early.

“No side to side 25 passes, find him early. Jack and Jota have that speed of thought.”

TBR’s View:

Grealish is arguably Villa’s most important player going into the new campaign and a lot of their attacking play will go through him.

The 23-year-old central midfielder likes to drift into the number 10 role to join in with attacks and certainly has an eye for goal.

Meanwhile, Jota has slotted in very well to the Villa team and his movement drifting in from the flank looks exciting for supporters.

It will be a step up for him to replicate that in the top-flight, but the signs are extremely positive and the team looks like it can play an attractive style of football.
