Dele Alli impressed for Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday evening as Spurs cruised past non-league Marine in the FA Cup third round – and Stan Collymore has suggested the perfect Premier League club for the England star, in Everton.
Dele, 24, is slowly creeping back into the Tottenham fold – having made the Premier League matchday squad in four of Tottenham’s last five games. Beforehand, he had been missing from the last seven league matches.
He started against Marine in a much-weakened Spurs side that also included fringe players Gedson Fernandes, Joe Rodon, Harvey White and more. Carlos Vinicius scored a hat-trick, but Dele took home plenty of plaudits, netting one assist.
Speaking on Twitter after watching Dele shine for Spurs against Marine, arguably one of his best performances this season – albeit despite the opposition – Collymore thinks Dele would be the perfect January signing for Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton.
TBR’s view – Would Alli be a good signing for Everton?
It is a lazy link. Looking at Everton’s side, they boast numerous attacking midfielders. James Rodriguez is the obvious one and at the moment, the Colombia international plays ahead of Dele in a position where there is only room for one.
Everton have cover. Gylfi Sigurdsson can play in that role, as can Alex Iwobi and Bernard. While the size and position of Everton would suit Dele – the current Toffees squad would see Dele struggle to play regularly under Ancelotti.
However, Ancelotti is clearly a fan and Dele’s potential availability might tempt him. In 2016, he told the Telegraph: “Dele Alli will be playing Champions League football next season, and he will be one of the best young players in the competition.”
