Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore says that Arsenal may struggle to keep talisman Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at the club if they do not qualify for the Champions League or win a trophy this season.
As per the Daily Mirror, Collymore – perhaps bizarrely – predicts trouble ahead in Aubameyang’s Arsenal career unless the club proves their ambition.
He said: “If Aubameyang doesn’t find the net, then Arsenal struggle to find goals. That’s why it’s imperative the club remains in the top four. This way they can persuade their main striker that he can challenge for the game’s top prizes.
“It’s touch-and-go whether they qualify for the Champions League. Failure could mean that Aubameyang decides to move on. [He] doesn’t have the same rapport with the crowd at the Emirates as some Arsenal legends. He is also exactly the kind of pacy striker that Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp favours. Arsenal fans, you’ve been warned.”
TBR’s View – Is Aubameyang’s future really that precarious?
There have been some flirtations with one last payday in China for Aubameyang, and if Arsenal are outside the Champions League again next season then perhaps he could be tempted to leave.
But he has a great attitude, seems to love the club and the comments about his relationship with the fans – who love him – and Liverpool potentially looking at him look very wide of the mark indeed.
It would be a huge shock if the Gunners were to offload their talisman, who has hauled them through games at times this season.
