Stan Collymore eager to see Aston Villa sign £36k-a-week striker

Aston Villa cult hero Stan Collymore has urged the Villans to consider making a move for Ivan Toney in the summer.

Collymore, writing on CaughtOffside, says he would “happily drive” the Brentford and England forward to Villa Park himself.

Villa have enjoyed a superb season so far, currently sitting in the top four of the Premier League table and in the latter stages of the Europa Conference League.

That said, there’s scope for the Villans to strengthen further in the summer, and Toney would no doubt be an amazing acquisition for Unai Emery.

The 27-year-old has hit the ground running after returning from an eight-month suspension, registering two goals in his first three games back.

Toney’s tally for Brentford reads 126 games, 70 goals and 21 assists. This shows how much quality he has, and a big summer move would be the perfect reward.

The likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United have been linked with a move for the £36,000-a-week ace (Salarysport).

Stan Collymore would love to see Aston Villa try for Ivan Toney

Although there haven’t been any links between Toney and Villa, Collymore says he’d love to see him in the claret and blue of B6.

“I would love to see Aston Villa join the party,” he said. “I know Toney’s preference may be to stay in London, but if he fancies a change of scenery, I would happily drive him to the Midlands myself.

“Unai Emery is one injury away from having no recognised striker. If Ollie Watkins is sidelined, that only leaves Jhon Duran, and he’s injured himself at the moment.

“So it’s obvious Villa needs a new forward – Toney would be a superb addition.”

As good as Watkins is, the Villans certainly need more cover for him. Duran is currently injured, and it remains to be seen what his future holds at Villa Park.

Obviously Toney wouldn’t be cheap, with Brentford reportedly slapping a £100million price tag on him, not to mention strong interest from elite clubs.

That said, if Villa seal a Champions League spot, they’d certainly have the pull to attract Toney ahead of the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United.
