Stan Collymore brands Aston Villa naive after Bournemouth loss

Stan Collymore branded Aston Villa “naive” as two mistakes ultimately cost them in the defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday.

Dean Smith’s side suffered a 2-1 loss in the Premier League during their first home game of the season.

The Midlands giants remain on zero points after back-to-back losses to begin the campaign, which is hardly the dream return to the top-flight after promotion last year.

Villa found themselves with a two-goal deficit after only 12 minutes, as they gifted the visitors the lead and ultimately three points.

Joshua King scored a penalty in the second minute after goalkeeper Tom Heaton conceded a spot-kick with his foul, while Douglas Luiz’s error in the middle of the park meant that Harry Wilson went on to score a second.

Luiz did make amends in the second-half with a stunning long-range goal, but ultimately the fightback didn’t lead to any points.

Ex-Villa striker Collymore voiced his frustration towards his former side after defensive mistakes cost them.

“I went in on Norwich’s naivety at Liverpool in defending their own half. Against the European champions. Villa, two gimmes in 15 minutes, opposition haven’t had to break sweat to go two up. Naive in the extreme,” Collymore wrote on his personal Twitter account.

TBR’s View:

Villa can be bitterly disappointed with themselves for a shocking start to the game against Bournemouth, which has ultimately sent them to successive defeats.

They are learning the hard way that there is very little margin for error in the Premier League and that you will be punished for your mistakes.

Smith can certainly take positives from the opening games, but it’s vital they get some points on the board in the next two matches against Everton and Crystal Palace.
