Nottingham Forest have sacked Martin O’Neill and within minuted announced his replacement in the form of ex-France international Sabri Lamouchi – which has prompted reaction from Stan Collymore and Chris Sutton.
The Guardian reported moments before Championship club Forest announced that O’Neill was to be sacked, after he had fallen out with a number of key players at the club – a week after Roy Keane left as his assistant.
It was also claimed that France international Lamouchi would be taking over at the City Ground, despite last managing French side Rennes – where he managed just 19 wins in 50 league and cup outings.
Sutton, who worked under O’Neill at Celtic and former Forest star Collymore both reacted on Twitter, with Sutton upset at O’Neill dismissal and Collymore discussing Lamouchi’s agent, the renowned Jorge Mendes.
TBR’s view – Collymore and Sutton both right
Despite winning only eight of his 19 games in charge, O’Neill should feel harshly treated after being sacked by a club where he is considered a legend for his time at the City Ground as a player.
Only given five months to turn things round, former Ireland boss O’Neill deserved the summer to bring in his own players and have a proper go at the Championship next time around.
Instead, Forest now have an inexperienced manager, that has never played or managed in England. Yes, 12 France caps are impressive, but his managerial record is hardly that. Time will tell.
