Arsenal’s biggest problem is their mentality
In the first half, Tottenham were by far the better side, but Arsenal clung on. Petr Cech was on form and Tottenham twice missed sitters through Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen, and it seemed as though the Gunners could have been able to hold out for a deserved point.
However, from the second that a piece of magic from Alli and Eriksen opened the scoring, with Alli pouncing on a loose rebound in the box, Arsenal seemed to collapse as they capitulated to a disappointing defeat.
Only two minutes after the goal, defender Gabriel lost his head and recklessly swung a leg at Harry Kane’s shin to take the England striker down in the box and allow him to step up and score to make it five North London derbies in a row in which he has scored.
That capitulation, joined with the petulant frustration of Alexis Sanchez up-front and the disappearing act of the likes of Mesut Ozil, was as close to a two minute summary of Arsenal’s season as you’ll find.
