‘St. Totteringham’s day is a thing of the past’ – Three things learnt from Tottenham 2-0 Arsenal

For Tottenham, Sunday’s North London Derby represented the opportunity to keep the title race alive by challenging Chelsea and keeping the gap at just four points with four games to play.

For Arsenal, it represented a last hope of catching up with the two Manchester clubs and Liverpool in the race for a top four finish behind Spurs and Chelsea after a disastrous season to date.

The first half was a tense affair, with Tottenham unable to convert opportunities into goals, with Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen both missing chances that were seemingly easier to score.

The second half was a different story, with Alli and Eriksen linking up and the England midfielder pounced when Petr Cech saved a close range shot from the Dane to give Mauricio Pochettino’s side the lead.

Only three minutes later, Harry Kane had extended that lead after Gabriel fouled him inside the box to give the striker the chance to score from 12 yards with a fine penalty finding the bottom corner.

From that moment on there was only one winner, with Spurs comfortably seeing out the rest of the game without a clear cut chance to speak of for Arsenal as Tottenham fans enjoyed their victory in the final North London derby to be played at White Hart Lane in its current form.
