St Johnstone manager Callum Davidson has showered praise on Rangers captain James Tavernier, and compared the star to Liverpool full-backs Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson.

The 29-year-old has been in stunning form for the Gers this season, scoring 17 goals and providing 14 assists in 29 appearances in all competitions.

Those are remarkable statistics from the right-back, who is certainly getting people talking.

One man who has been thoroughly impressed is Davidson, a former full-back himself.

The manager will be coming up against Rangers and Tavernier tomorrow, and has been speaking about the Englishman’s quality ahead of the game.

He said (via Herald and Times Sport): “With Tavernier, you just need to look at his record. It’s been phenomenal – assists and goals. His numbers are great. When I was playing full-back I had to defend!

“I think it’s brilliant that you see full-backs contribute in attack like we see in the game today.

“Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool are two of the best and Tavernier’s delivery into the box is up there. It’s phenomenal.”

To have someone so brilliant from dead-ball and crossing situations is huge in football.

Part of the reason Liverpool are so destrutive is down to the influence of Robertson and Alexander-Arnold and their ability to deliver, and Davidson is quite right to make the comparison in terms of that particular aspect.
