Spurs will struggle to sign reported target Marcelo Brozovic - journalist
Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that Marcelo Brozovic would be an unbelievable signing for Tottenham Hotspur, but insisted that he cannot see Inter Milan selling the midfielder.
January is going to be a critical month for Antonio Conte’s side. They have been underwhelming for much of this season. And yet, they are on course for a top-four finish in the Premier League. And they are through to the knockout stages of the Champions League.
With that in mind, you would imagine that Conte would like further signings to come in in January.
Brozovic would be unbelievable for Tottenham
Give Me Sport notes that reports from Italy have claimed that Spurs are on pole position to sign Brozovic – who earns £180,000-a-week at San Siro.
It would be no surprise if Conte wanted Brozovic. Reports from FC Inter News earlier this year claimed that Spurs tried to sign the Croatian before landing Rodrigo Bentancur. However, Brozovic rejected them immediately.
Tottenham are in a much better place heading into this January window. Nevertheless, Jones does not believe that Brozovic is a realistic target for Spurs.
“Brozovic is part of the steelwork at Inter Milan. He’s so influential for them and brilliant,” he told Give Me Sport.
“I can understand why Tottenham would be going after a player like this and he would be a dream addition to the midfield, but I just don’t see it happening.
“This would be an unbelievable signing and one that I just can’t believe Inter Milan would allow to happen.”
Spurs arguably only need further reinforcements in midfield if something very special becomes available. Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg have been two of their best players this season.
That has meant that neither Yves Bissouma or Oliver Skipp have probably played as much as they would have expected.
Brozovic would be that something special. He has been one of the best holding midfielders in Europe for a number of years. And he is no stranger to working under Conte.
Jones clearly expects Brozovic to stay put beyond January. But Spurs are surely right to put themselves in the mix.
