Spurs may have one of the best managers in world football, but there’s still a lot of work that needs to be done at Tottenham.

Antonio Conte’s charges fell to an embarrassing defeat at Mura in the Europa Conference League in midweek.

The Spurs manager even admitted after the game that his new club’s level is “not so high”.

With the January transfer window on the horizon, there’s a good chance Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici will look to bring new players in.

One player who has been linked with Tottenham has been compared to Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard.

According to Calciomercato, Roma’s Nicolo Zaniolo is very much on the Spurs radar, and he could potentially be open to a move.

Contract talks between the Serie A club and 22-year-old have reportedly stalled following his difficult start to the season.

Corriere dello Sport claims Zaniolo was unhappy at being played out of position on the left and frustrated by being benched for Roma’s last two league outings.

The attacking ace has started 10 of Roma’s 13 Serie A games this season.

However, he was on the bench in the defeat to Venezia on 7 November and was an unused sub for the win over Genoa last week.

Zaniolo is a talented player who came in for big praise three years ago by Stefano Vecchi, his former coach at Inter Milan.

“He will go places,” Vecchi told La Gazzetta dello Sport, via Goal.com.

“He has the characteristics to become a modern mezzala. He’s a [Steven] Gerrard, [Frank] Lampard-type player.”
