Spurs transfer: Tottenham have reportedly opened talks to sign 23-cap international; Paratici confident deal will get done

Spurs may not yet have a new manager in place, but it appears that Fabio Paratici is not allowing that to derail his transfer plans, with the Daily Mail reporting that they have opened talks to sign one of their targets.

The big priority for Tottenham looks to be strengthening the defence this summer.

It proved to be an Achilles heel throughout Jose Mourinho’s tenure. The Portuguese struggled to settle on a consistent pairing at the heart of his backline.

And Paratici is seemingly wasting little time in trying to bolster the options in that area of the field.

The Bologna star is available for £15 million. The Sun notes meanwhile, that Spurs are confident that they will seal a move for the Japan international.

Spurs fans may have mixed feelings about Tomiyasu transfer

Tomiyasu is hardly a household name. And the potential £15 million fee hardly suggests that Paratici is about address all of Spurs’ issues in one deal.

It must also be noted that Bologna did not boast the best defensive record last season. Only five sides conceded more goals in Serie A.

Having said that, Tomiyasu is extremely versatile. He seems just as comfortable at centre-back as he is at right-back.

He has also played on the opposite flank and in holding midfield. So he will add depth in a number of roles.

And he offers a lot of pace. He also ranked in the top 20 for clearances per game, and top 30 for interceptions in Serie A last year (Whoscored).

Could Tomiyasu pave way for Aurier to leave?

The Daily Mail reports that Tottenham expect Serge Aurier to leave this summer. He has already spoken of his desire to move on.

Tomiyasu is someone who can play in a couple of roles. But surely, his arrival is what Spurs and Aurier need to pave the way for the Ivorian to finally move on.
